Mary Trump says she heard her uncle Donald Trump use the N-word and other racial slurs.
President Donald Trump’s niece, Mary Trump, claims she’s heard her uncle say the N-word and use other anti-Semitic slurs in the past.
During an interview with MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow, Mary Trump, author of the new scathing book “Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man,” was pressed on her recent statements to the Washington Post in which she claimed her uncle is “clearly racist.”
She also described growing up in a family of “knee-jerk” racism. When asked whether that description generalized her family’s casual bigotry or if she had actually heard Donald Trump say racist things, Mary Trump stated, “Oh yeah, of course I did. And I don’t think that should surprise anybody given how virulently racist he is today.”
Mary Trump said the racist language was “perfectly commonplace and ordinary” among her family. “I didn’t share their ideas about race and Judaism at all. But you know, when you grow up with that being perfectly normal, you don’t really think twice about it,” she said.
During a Wednesday interview with the Washington Post, Mary claimed racism was a normal occurrence, “Growing up, it was sort of normal to hear them use the N-word or use anti-Semitic expressions,” she told the outlet.
Mary Trump is a clinical psychologist by training and is currently on a publicity tour to promote her tell-all memoir, which surpassed Donald Trump’s brother, Robert Trump’s attempt to suppress its publication. Last week a judge lifted a restriction on Mary Trump conducting a press tour.
